User Administration
This feature allows you to Add, Delete or Modify users in your
domain. You can also Display information about
a user (such as his/her UserID, user attributes and mailbox information), and change a user’s
password (Chng Pass).
When you Add a new e-mail account, you must put in the required information
(UserID and the password). Additional attributes are listed that you can change, such as allowing a
user to change his/her
password. If you click on “Help”, you will see each of the items listed
explained in detail. You can modify an existing e-mail address, by changing
the same attributes available to you when you add an e-mail address.
If you want to Add a new e-mail account, but have the mail forwarded to another
account, you can create an alias instead of adding a new user.
Also, if you want to change an existing e-mail account, to have their mail forwarded to another
account, you can create an alias for this as well.
See “Alias Administration” below on how to do this.
Alias Administration
This feature allows you to Add, Delete, Modify or Display an alias in
your domain. An alias is an e-mail address that refers
or “points” to some other address. For example, if I had
an e-mail address kimberly@steuber.com,
but I wanted people to be able to e-mail me by just using “kim”, I could create an alias. The alias ID
would be kim, the alias type would be standard, and the destination would be
kimberly@steuber.com.
Aliases can be used to forward mail to another account.
For example, if I wanted all my mail to
be sent to my hotmail account, I’d create an alias titled kim , and make the destination
kim@hotmail.com This will forward all my mail
that goes to my steuber.com account, to my hotmail
account. Note that this is very useful when you want to
change an account in your domain, because this mail server does not let you change the forwarding address
for other users in your domain. This is the way
around it.
There may be an alias in your domain titled “nobody”.
This is a special alias.
When anyone sends an e-mail to an unknown person in your domain, the “nobody” alias grabs
the e-mail and sends it to the destination given (this will usually be an
“admin” account). For example, if I sent an e-mail to
whocares@steuber.com (and assuming there is no one by the name “
whocares”), the e-mail I sent will be directed to an admin account.
Note: Do not change the alias “Postmaster”.
List Administration
This feature allows you to create
l ist-server mailing lists for your mail host. If you would
like additional information on this, consult the online “Help” documentation.
This will guide
you step-by-step how to create your own list-server mailing list.
