Setup the Count File
The count file stores the hit count, information
about the owner of the file, and a list of recent hits. Each hit
counter must have a count file. The count file may be used with
any of the available counter GIF files.
Unlike the counter GIF files, which are freely available
for anyone to use, the counter file belongs to one person. It
tracks the hits on a single site. Therefore, it is password
protected. Once it is created, the password is required to
view, change or delete the file. In addition, a different passcode
is required to place the counter on your web page. There is no
guarantee that some misguided individual won't look at the source of
your page and put the counter on their page.
To setup a new count file, complete each field in
the form and click the "New" button.
To view or make changes to an existing count
file, complete the file name and password fields and click the
"Retrieve" button. The current information in the count
file will be displayed. Make whatever changes you wish and click
the "Change" button. The "Change" button is
only displayed after a record is retrieved.
To delete a count file, complete the file name and password
fields and click the "Delete" button.
If the addition or change is successful, an email
with the passcode will be sent to the address specified. This
code is necessary to display the counter on your web page.
